Logitech offers an even wider range of iPad keyboards than Apple, but choosing the right model is relatively simple as Logitech’s website lets you enter your iPad’s model number – which can be found on the back of the keyboard. iPad – and will then show you which keyboards are compatible. with your model.
One of Logitech’s best all-around options is the Combo Touch, available in a variety of sizes for iPad, iPad Air, and iPad Pro. Previous models in Logitech’s Combo Touch line were all very similar, simply varying in size to accommodate different iPad models and different types of Smart Connectors that Apple introduced over the years. These older models are still available for older iPads, but the new editions for the iPad Pro and iPad Air 2024 have undergone a slight redesign.
It retains the two-piece removable design of previous models, with a separate case and keyboard panel. You can use the iPad in the case without the keyboard, just to provide extra protection when holding the iPad in your hands or carrying it around, and there is a cutout section on the case that leaves some place to attach an Apple Pencil. The case also has an adjustable stand that will allow you to sit and watch videos while the iPad sits on a desk or table. The stand section fully covers the sides and back of the iPad for added protection when just using the iPad in tablet mode, and allows you to adjust the viewing angle from 100 to 600 as needed.
When you’re ready to work, you can simply use the smart connectors on the case to attach the keyboard panel and start typing. The keyboard section connects to magnetic mounts on the stand, which hold both sections firmly in place, and the keyboard is powered by your iPad’s Smart Connector. The keys move well for such a thin keyboard, so you can definitely work when you need to, and the keyboard even has an adjustable backlight.
Like Apple’s more expensive keyboards, the Combo Touch also includes a trackpad, which supports a variety of one-, two-, or three-finger gestures. The top row of function keys lets you adjust settings like brightness and volume, as well as music and video playback controls. There’s a function key for adjusting the backlight and a key that takes you straight to the home screen, and we like the lock key that lets you quickly turn the iPad on or off (and works very good if your iPad has Face ID).
It’s business as usual for Combo Touch keyboards, but the redesigned models for 2024 are a bit lighter than their predecessors. The 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Air keyboards weigh 495g and 686g respectively, and – as with Apple’s new Magic Keyboard – the iPad Pro version is even lighter, at 474g for the 11-inch model and 660 g for the 13 inch. model in inches. The color choices are also different with the Combo Touch 2024 for iPad Pro available in Graphite, while older versions of this model are Oxford Gray or Sand. The color and material of the new iPad Air option are also different for 2024.
The trackpad on these new keyboards is also larger than before, making it easier to use multi-finger gestures for tasks like zooming in on photos or switching between photos. The keyboard is firm and responsive, and some changes have been made to the function keys for this generation. The keys that previously activated the on-screen keyboard and search have been replaced by keys for capturing screenshots and using Siri or dictation, and the key that was used to lock the screen of the iPad now enters Do Not Disturb mode.
So while it doesn’t have the luxurious materials and build quality of the new Apple Magic Keyboard, the Combo Touch for 2024 offers a lightweight, versatile keyboard/case combo at a considerably lower price than its Apple rival.

Purchase advice
The 2024 versions of the Logitech Combo Touch for iPad Pro and iPad Air improve on previous generations with a larger trackpad and lighter construction. That’s still a lot of money to spend on a keyboard to turn an iPad into a laptop when a 13-inch MacBook Air M2 starts at $999/$999 and a 13-inch iPad Air M2 with a Logitech keyboard starts at $1,028.99/£1,028.99. , but of course Apple’s iPad keyboard solution would cost you even more.
