Now that Cyberpunk 2077 is available, it is high time we focused on its performance on our various machines. The site Digital foundry has just made its judgment by comparing the console versions and one of them is particularly noteworthy …
The open world of this new Polish game from CD Projekt Red is undoubtedly impressive. On a newer machine, I mean because Cyberpunk 2077 was designed to take full advantage of the latest generation machines. On a current PC, don’t worry, the game keeps its promises by offering a sublime night city that’s full of people and technically perfect. On the other hand, the picture is not nice on Xbox consoles from 2013 (Fat or even S version). Sloppy textures, strawberry FPS, drastically reduced populations and tons of bugs … The disappointment is great and even encourages some to advise against their direct purchase. The One X version hasn’t been tested by them, but the Xbox Series X version is based on it. Cyberpunk 2077 is not yet specially optimized for the latest Xboxes. It will receive a free update in 2021. We are currently only entitled to a backward compatible One X version.
Digital foundry However, note some notable differences from other versions of the game. Obviously, CD Projekt didn’t just “let go” of its blockbuster without a minimum of work on the next generation. First, The X series has two modes: performance and quality. The former runs the game at 1080p / 60 fps with a minimal but acceptable drop. The second mode is exclusive to the X series, it reduces the frequency to 30 fps, but increases the resolution considerably! Namely between 1500 and 1800p, fluctuating but not shocking. In addition, some effects contained here are missing, such as B. the quality of the filters, in other console versions completely. The result is a thinner and livelier world thanks to a significant increase in population and the number of vehicles and, of course, faster loads.
The result on the Xbox Series S is also very good. It appears that CD Projekt relied on the X-Series quality mode for this release. A resolution around 1080p with peaks at 1296p, all calibrated to 30 fps. This version also benefits from more pedestrians / vehicles, more details and shorter loads.
It seems that the Polish studio wanted to refine these backward-compatible versions of the Xbox series. You will tell me the first presentation in 2018 was at the Microsoft booth at E3. There is sure to be a “deal”. We can’t forget that certain optimized versions will hit the market in 2021. We can already imagine what improvements will come … Ray tracing, details on the rise, bugs probably eliminated by then … We can’t wait for a release date, because despite the current technical controversy (justified), the game is frankly haunting and catchy ! Come on i’m going back …
