Cyberpunk 2077The poor performance on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One has prompted an apology and a refund from the Publisher CD Project.
The studio apologized to the fans on Monday morning, “that the game was not shown on last-generation base consoles before the premiere, so you could not make a more informed decision about your purchase.
“We should have paid more attention to make it work better on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One,” said the note signed by Marcin Iwinski, founder of parent company CD Projekt, and the entire board of directors.
Cyberpunk 2077, possibly the most anticipated game of the new decade, launched on Thursday with a string of embarrassing bugs and performance issues on the PS4 and Xbox One. CD Projekt Red only made the game available to reviewers on PC, where it did much better. Day-zero hotfixes and a patch within the first two days did little to alleviate the disappointment of console gamers over the weekend.
Of particular concern was a sequence in the unpatched game where players were exposed to a blinking light effect that one reviewer said caused an epileptic fit during the game before it started. CD Projekt Red quickly added a formal epilepsy warning to the game, and the patch announced on Friday is set to rearrange the order to reduce the chance of a seizure.
Monday morning’s apology promised that another update would arrive in the next seven days. “Expect more as we will update regularly as new improvements become available,” said CD Projekt Red. Two major patches are also planned for January and February. “Together, these should fix the major issues facing last generation consoles,” the studio said.
“You’re not going to make the game look like it is running on a high-spec PC or next-generation console on the last generation, but it will be closer to that experience than it is now,” the note said. PC gamers have fewer problems with it Cyberpunk 2077 will also be included in the regular updates and fixes, said CD Projekt.
Cyberpunk 2077 for PS5 and Xbox Series X has no launch date yet, except sometime in 2021. Play Cyberpunk 2077 Backward compatibility on PS5 and Xbox Series X provides some performance and visual improvement.
With regard to refunds, CD Projekt asked customers who purchased the game from an online marketplace to first apply for refunds through the appropriate procedures. For packaged goods, try to get a refund through the retailer who sold them. If a refund is still not available, the studio has provided a help email address and a promise to “do our best to help”.
