Did Sony quietly hint at the release of the PS5 at this New York City event?
Sony Announces One-Month Celebration at Sony Plaza New York Store in New York Experience PlayStation. It starts today and will continue until February 16.
Although the event's page clearly states that its focus is on PS4 and PS VR games, the timing has left fans wondering if it will end with the unveiling of the PS5.
You may recall that the PS4 debuted at the Sony PlayStation Meeting in New York on February 20, 2013. That's partly why some people have suggested that Sony may officially launch the PS5 at this year's event.
The last time Sony showed a new console in New York was the PS4 Pro event, which took place in September 2016 at the now-closed PlayStation Theater. On the other hand, the 2013 PlayStation Conference was held in the center of Manhattan.
Considering that the company's growing dependence on its own activities is not conducive to large shows such as E3, it is likely that it will also choose to show its next-generation consoles to the world in its New York City stores.
