The 2020 versions of the Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick Lite come with the same design and 50% more performance at the same price (or $ 10 less in the case of the Lite model, which only varies the remote).

Improving performance is not the only privilege of the new generation, and it is that Amazon has introduced a new interface for its Fire TV that comes first on these new affordable models, as we told you. a few days ago. We have tested them and these are our impressions.

Here is the new Fire TV interface

The new Fire TV interface is starting to roll out and we have already had the opportunity to test it. This is one of the most significant updates since the existence of Fire TVs, focusing on three fundamental aspects: design, profiles and our relationship to content.

This screen is the first thing we see as soon as we turn on the newly updated Fire TV Stick. We find a screen divided in two, having for central line the menu in which we are. In the lower half we will have recommendations or content for each section, while in the upper half there will be featured trailers.

Just press up or down to make the divider line reach a point where it doesn’t get in the way and leaves most of the screen for the highlighted section. If we click up, the trailers for the outstanding productions appear.

The trailers for said content don’t have to do with the subscriptions we have on the device, in my case it recommends movies from Prime Video, Movistar +, Netflix, Orange TV and FlixOlé (without being subscribed to all of them). these platforms). These trailers are only an invitation to know the content, and will eventually be opened in their corresponding application (requiring their corresponding subscription).

Among its multiple options, we maintain the section Live, which allows us to watch live TV channels from apps like RTVE, Atres Player or Pluto TV. It also gives us access to live Twitch TV channels.

The applications menu on the main screen gives us direct access to up to 5 applications, the rest being hidden. In this menu we can order them leaving the first 5 on the home screen.

Content search

Search is one of the sections of Amazon in its new interface. By entering this we will have the option to search by keyboard or with Alexa’s voice, but we can also go directly to one of the sections.

When selecting humor, for example, humorous content from various streaming platforms will appear.

The same thing happens with movies, where we enjoy content that is free or available for purchase or rental, as if it were a video store. Again, we appreciate a header with featured content on any platform.

Profiles for the whole family

But without a doubt, one of the key factors in the new Fire TV update is the inclusion of profiles. You can create up to six profiles, each with their own name and personalized avatar (among the options available).

Although at the time of creating a profile, it receives the preinstalled applications, having the same session started in them. Otherw ise, the profiles are independent and everyone can install their own applications.

In addition to apps, personalized recommendations will be linked to your profile, so if your kids succumb to a Peppa Pig Marathon in the profile created for them, you won’t have to live with recommendations based on their views (unless you really want).

An update that improves an already round Fire TV

Right now, the new Fire TV interface is starting to roll out to the Fire Stick TV and Fire Stick TV Lite 2020. This update starts rolling out via a phased rollout, so if you already have one of these devices you may have to wait several days for the new interface.

If, on the other hand, the new Fire Sticks grabbed attention but you were still undecided, they’re still on sale for Christmas, being at 20 dollars the Lite plus and 30 dollars the normal model. Both are great devices for turning your old FullHD TV into a smart TV.
