ANNO: Mutationem by Chinese developer ThinkingStars is part of PlayStation’s China Hero Project, which highlights games developed by independent Chinese developers. While the game will still be coming to PC in early 2021, ThinkingStars has announced that ANNO: Mutationem has been delayed until Q3 2021 on the PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles.
ANNO: Mutationem was first announced during ChinaJoy 2018 alongside other titles from PlayStation’s China Hero Project. Since then, the game has been featured in many Chinese gaming events, but attracted a lot of attention last August after it was featured during Sony’s State of Play event. The game is a 2.5D action platformer with RPG elements inspired by other cyberpunk media such as Blade Runner.
Earlier this month ANNO: Mutationem made its playable debut on PC during The Game Awards’ Steam Demo Festival, however the game was originally scheduled to release in December 2020, leaving many fans wondering why ThinkingStars had not yet announced the release date of the game. Now, on the last day of the year no less, ThinkingStars has confirmed that while the PC version is still on the way for early 2021, the PS4 and PS5 versions of ANNO: Mutationem have been pushed back to Q3 of 2021, placing the game’s release between July. and September 2021. The delay is to polish the launch of the console versions and prepare the game for launch on other platforms later in 2021.

As the developer states in their Twitter post, ANNO’s comments: Mutationem’s Game Awards demo got the developers to reflect on the quality of the game and re-plan and polish much of the game’s content. The game will also be announced for more platforms in 2021, which means it could also see an Xbox and Nintendo Switch launch before the end of next year. Given the controversy regarding other games within the cyberpunk genre releasing this month, this is understandably the best call to action for the game’s developers, releasing a game that you trust rather than one that will be released as soon as possible. .
ANNO: Mutationem will launch on PC in Q1 2021, with PS4 and PS5 versions to follow in Q3 2021.
