Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds 2 is in the works. We’ll tell you what we know about the PUBG sequel so far.

PUBG 2 is to come. The developer company behind the Battle Royale hit confirms this – albeit not directly or completely officially. In the following article we will explain all previous information about the continuation of Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds and what fans should currently know.

PUBG 2: What we know about it so far

Where does the information about PUBG 2 come from? That Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds 2 is currently in development goes out of one Report from the Korean media outlet MTN emerged. It describes that Krafton (the parent company behind developer studios such as PUBG Studio or Striking Distance) is already working on PUBG 2.

According to the report, employees were already gathered for this endeavor in May 2019, while PUBG Mobile 2 is being developed by the same team that had already worked on PUBG Lite.

The established industry insider responded to the MTN report PlayerIGN on Twitter. According to him, it is »Project XTRM« about the full-fledged PUBG sequel, which so far has only been rumored. Originally, many fans assumed that Project XTRM would be a remake of the original PUBG.

When will PUBG 2 be officially announced? According to PlayerIGN, it shouldn’t take too long for Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds 2 to be revealed by the developer himself. A conceivable period for this would be February to March 2021, since during this period the PUBG Global Invitational or their finals take place in South Korea.

An official PUBG event of this size would definitely be an option. This is currently just speculation, so fans should wait and see and don’t get too excited.

For which platforms does PUBG 2 appear? According to PlayerIGN or the South Korean report, Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds 2 will be released for PC, consoles (Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X and S) and mobile platforms. The previous information on Project XTRM originally indicated that crossplay should be supported, but according to PlayerIGN this is not the case.

It should be clear, however, that PUBG 2 is based on Unreal Engine 4 – as was the case with its predecessor. After all, this engine has already been used at Project XTRM. When is the release? There is currently no information on the release date of PUBG 2. However, it is not all that likely that the sequel will appear in 2021 – even if the game has been in development since the beginning of 2019. Fans shouldn’t expect a release before 2022, but they should always wait for official information on this.

What else is there to know? Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds 2 should completely forego the support of Brendan Greene – the creator of PUBG. Greene expressed in the past that he was not interested in a continuation of his Battle Royale hit. Meanwhile, Greene has also moved from Seoul to Amsterdam to join a new team to work on “Prologue”.

It is currently not known what exactly Prologue will be. According to Greene, however, his current project has nothing to do with PUBG or shooters in general. Instead, the talk is of “experimenting with new technologies”. So far there is only a short teaser video for Prologue, which shows a forest scene in pretty decent graphics.
