The one-man development studio Kinetic Games has released a new update for the beta branch of the co-op horror hit Phasmophobia. The patch is relatively small and fixes a few bugs, but it also adds a new feature that was indirectly requested by many players.
Phasmophobia makes the spirits even more dangerous now
In Phasmophobia you should be as calm as possible so as not to anger the wandering ghost – this is one of the first things you learn in the game. Many players have assumed that this also applies once the ghost has manifested itself and goes on the hunt for prey.
However, this was not the case, as the developer has now confirmed on Twitter:

So it really means: If the ghost is walking through the house, you have to keep calm and hide somewhere! Because not only can the spirit hear you now, it also becomes significantly smarter.
As early as January 8, 2021, the beta version was equipped with an update that allows the ghosts to chase you much more effectively during the hunting phase:

“The ghost will now go to your last known place if it lost sight of you while hunting. This means that the ghost will now follow you around corners.”
What sounds like a small change should above all a big change for professionals mean. The ghosts in Phasmophobia were pretty easy to outsmart with a little practice – but now the paranormal beings will be able to follow you around corners and into rooms and ignore all the old tricks. So on your next chase, be sure to close the door behind you if you hide in the closet.
This is how you install the beta
As mentioned above, you can currently only try out the changes in the beta branch. To activate this, you have to complete the following steps in Steam:
- Open your Steam library and search for Phasmophobia.
- Go to the settings by right-clicking on the game name.
- In the Betas tab you can now take part in the beta by selecting the option »beta – Unstable Buid«.
- After a short download, the beta version is ready to play.
