Every Dragon Ball fan has a favorite moment, the one that made them happy on the screen or kept waiting. For some, this moment may be the start of more confrontation, while for others it may be a great line of dialogue. I can remember with one particular exchange in the Cell saga that gave me goosebumps the first time I heard & # 39; em.
Take a look – or learn! – these times for many years, and with Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, you'll be able to play with the Warriors' saga, from the Raditz attack all the way through Majin Buu. We were curious about how the game development team pushed such a well-known sagas into one game (let us add more characters, characters and moments), so we reach out to a community expert Sam Wilkinson and lead producer Ryosuke Hara for more details.
igamesnews: Dragon Ball Z: Wakarot covers the entire DBZ saga, from the days of Raditz and Vegeta to the great show with Majin Buu. That's a lot of soil to cover! Have there ever been a time when the team felt that the original sagas would be enough to fill the whole game, or was the intention always telling the full story?
Sam Wilkinson / Ryosuke Hara: That's a good question, this certainly crossed our minds at the same time. However, the original purpose of the project was not just to tell the story of Dragon Ball Z, but to allow players to see the journey shared by Goku and the Z-Warriors, to become stronger and to build their bonds. We felt that this should be presented in one package.
PSB: We think Wakarot doesn't really contain every minute and line from each saga, so how did the team decide where they should slow down and where to let the moments breathe?
SW / RH: Dragon Ball Z is popular worldwide, so everyone has their favorite place. This has made it difficult to set specific guidelines when deciding which times to include.
However, everyone working on Dragon Ball Z: Kakarots are lifelong fans of Dragon Ball, so we knew the only thing we could do was to continue discussing the best way to entertain as many Dragon Ball fans as possible.
PSB: What was the complete process of turning the "saga" into specific parts of the RPG?
SW / RH: Aside from the main story, we also focus on how to create gameplay between advanced scenarios. As I said, we are all fans of Dragon Ball, so ask Akira Toriyama questions we already like to know. We also practiced those answers in game mechanics, such as Subs and interviews with NPCs.
PSB: Are there certain moments from the show that weren't considered very important to the game's information but are they very memorable to come out?
SW / RH: There were tons! For example, we have tried to clarify the funny times Akira Toriyama is best known for, such as Gohan's school life during the Buu Arc. There are some times you won't see it in other Dragon Ball games.
PSB: Once you got into the times, were any of the lines used from the show or was the new VO recorded?
SW / RH: All the lines have just been recorded by voice actors for this game. Recently, there have been no Dragon Ball games focused on retelling anime sagas. So we can say that the voice actors felt a great longing, and enjoyed returning to these wonderful scenes.
PSB: If you don't cry against nominated blacks, Kakarot offers isolated construction claims with all kinds of NPCs. What kind of stories do you want to tell these people on the side, and how do they help add to the DBZ world?
SW / RH: The world of Dragon Ball is full of interesting characters. And while most of those characters have some kind of relationship with Goku, there are plenty of characters you don't see working in manga or anime. For example, Piccolo and Ox-King. Subtitles in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will re-establish relationships and expressions between these types of characters, and also introduce new locations in the Dragon Ball world given to him by the author himself.
PSB: The brand's newest character, Bonyu, was introduced with this off-the-shelf material. How is this added to the DBZ list and added to the game?
SW / RH: To be honest, adding this new character to Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, was totally unexpected. Still growing up, we compiled a list of questions we want to ask Akira Toriyama. In response to one of our questions about the Ginyu Force, he revealed that the new character, Bonyu, used to be a member of the Ginyu Force. And he not only provided us with this new genre, he also painted his character. We then created a small search regarding his shape, and his 3D Character model, based on the image provided by the author.
PSB: Were there any doubts about adding a new character to these past events? How does Bonyu add to the world of Dragon Ball Z?
SW / RH: We were in no doubt, and that was simply because he was the writer himself who introduced the new character to us.
PSB: Finally, how does Cyberconnect2 like to work with the DBZ Franchise? They have created popular anime fighting games and beloved RPGs, and this amounts to a good combination of their powers.
SW / RH: Certainly. We believe that CyberConnect2 has been able to fully utilize their capabilities in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. They were really successful in removing the style of presenting this game in the art style of Dragon Ball Z. I hope everyone is paying close attention to the various facial expressions from the characters in the game during the epic battles.
Ryosuke Hara and the team at CyberConnect2 were honored for presenting the Dragon Ball Z story on PS4. They have worked with enthusiasm to ensure that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot respects and expands Akira Toriyama's internationally acclaimed work.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot releases this Friday, January 17.
