For the first time in the franchise, Bungie added new darkness-based subclasses within the Beyond the Light expansion for Destiny 2. Based on slow and ice effects, Stasis has proven to be a highly controversial addition to the community, especially within from competitive modes like the Crucible and Trials of Osiris. Many in the community feel that being slowed down and frozen in what is supposed to be a fast-paced game mode isn’t fun.

Since November, Bungie has already made numerous adjustments to the Stasis subclasses, taking an overly powerful Shadebinder class and nerfing it significantly before reversing some of the damage done a couple of weeks later. The Hunter’s Revenant subclass appears to be the next class on the chopping board, as the studio attempts to bring the Shatterdive ability back in line with the rest of the game, as it currently hits very hard.

In Destiny 2’s first weekly update in 2021, Combat Area Leader Tomonori Kinoshita provided and updated some of the changes that hunters can expect to see within update 3.0.2. With Shatterdive, the skill now has a damage decrease when used against unfrozen targets and the maximum range has been significantly reduced from 50 to 5. The bottom line is that the user’s damage reduction during movement has also been reduced from 50% to 25%.

The Whisper of Fissures fragment is also being tweaked within this update, as it is a popular choice for further boosting Shatterdive’s effects. The detonation radius has been reduced from 10 to 9 meters and the minimum-maximum damage values have also been changed. When facing non-super players, the new min-max values are 30-4, instead of 42-22. When facing super-skilled players, those values change even more from 42-22 to 16-2. Overall these changes are an attempt to lower the overall ceiling of the game by addressing these Stasis outliers. However, the ultimate goal is to raise the floor for other subclasses that can be considered underperforming.

Fortunately, these changes only seem to affect the PvP style modes, as the blog post indicates that the new values are against Guardians and not NPCs, so those who enjoy feeling powerful on the PvE side of the game will likely they won’t see much of a difference. However, these changes appear to be only the beginning, as the blog also indicates that after the dust settles on these changes, the studio is curious to see how the Titan Behemoth subclass now fits within the game’s PvP meta. Either way, Bungie seems to have its sights set on the next Titan.

Destiny 2: Beyond the Light is now available for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S.
