When I heard that Koei Tecmo Studio was doing Omega Force Persona 5 strikersI introduced myself Dynasty Warriors play with Person 5 Character. It turns out that it isn’t quite like that at all. After playing through the first few hours of the entire game, Strikers feels more like an extension of Person 5 with a different combat system.
My confusion is understandable. Omega Force makes Musou games, large-scale action role-playing games, with fields full of available enemies anchored by a few more powerful enemies. Most games from other series developed by Omega Force follow suit. Hyrule Warriors, Dragon Quest Heroes, Fire Emblem Warriors and like everyone else, there are hordes of enemies to wade through to conquer battlefields and win the day. I expected much of the same here.
Persona 5 strikers does things differently than other third-party games developed by Omega Force, with Joker and his phantom thieves sneaking through colorful metaversal dungeons to dodge or ambush wandering enemies, similar to the original game. The main difference is that interacting with enemies starts the gang in real-time action RPG battles against dozens of enemies, as opposed to Person 5turn-based battles against small groups.
Though these large-scale encounters might feel a bit like the historical fantasy battles of Dynasty WarriorsThey are much more reserved and strategic. Enemies have elementary weaknesses that must be exploited to activate powerful all-out attacks. All four characters in your party have different special abilities and fighting styles. Therefore, it is important to know when to get in and out of which characters. Certain battles take place in areas with surrounding objects that can be exploited, e.g. B. Scaffolding that you can drop on enemies. It’s a far cry from the button-breaking hack-and-slash of the warrior Games.

But Strikers does not completely eliminate the turn-based elements of Person 5. During combat, you can hold down the right bumper, which will interrupt the action and allow access to the special abilities of your equipped persona. Joker retains his ability to equip multiple Persona at the same time while the other playable thieves cling to their signature ghosts. As the game progresses, Joker captures more and more Persona that he can take with him to the game’s Velvet Room to cross and improve on.
As for history, we’re familiar again Person 5 Area in which at least the first hours of Persona 5 strikers occur. Pick up six months after the events of Person 5, Strikers opens with Joker and friends who reunite after a while. The gang plans to spend their summer camping and road trip together, but before their vacation can begin they are mysteriously taken to another dimensional prison run by an outrageous fashion icon named Alice.
In the video below we see Joker, Ryuji and Morgana captured by the evil Alice only to escape with the help of the new character Sophia who is perhaps the most adorable thing I’ve ever seen.
It sounds like that too Person 5with many of the same pieces of music and cues. Hours of operation take place in familiar locations, from Cafe Leblanc to the streets of Shibuya. These places feel like they’ve been lifted straight off Person 5 and fell into this new game. The characters are mostly the same, with their voice actors slipping back into their roles without missing a beat. The Ryuji actor Max Mittelman and Futabas Erica Lindbeck deserve special mention, both of whom bring their A game with them.
So far Persona 5 strikers feels a lot more like a proper sequel Person 5 than the simple Dynasty Warriors I expected gameplay crossover. It has all the charm of the original game, with a whole new way of playing. I thought the Musou-style fights would detract from the experience, but they’re quick, fun, and seem to fit right into this twisted RPG world.
