The years in the making Mortal Kombat The film’s restart is almost here. On Friday, Warner Bros. revealed the first images of director Simon McQuoid’s upcoming film, due to hit theaters and HBO Max in April. It’s our first look at the icon Mortal Kombat Characters Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Jax, Sonya and Kano and the debut of newcomer Cole Young. (No, not Kole Young.)

According to an official recap from Warner Bros., Cole is a mixed martial arts fighter who wears a mysterious birthmark – one in the shape of the Mortal Kombat dragon logo. Cole is also the target of Sub-Zero, the ninja cryomancer who was sent to Earthrealm by Shang Tsung from Outworld to – you have to assume – remove the MMA fighter’s spine. Why Shang Tsung Cole sentenced to death is unclear.

Here is Cole, portrayed by Lewis Tan (Wu assassin) and Sub-Zero, played by Joe Taslim (The raid):

Fearing for the safety of his family, Warner Bros. Pictures says, “Cole goes to find Sonya Blade in the direction of Jax, a Special Forces Major who bears the strange dragon markings that Cole was born with.” Here are Jax and Sonya, played by Mehcad Brooks and Jessica McNamee, in the new one Mortal Kombat Movie.

Cole will find refuge under Lord Raiden, the thunder god protector of Earthrealm. According to Warner Bros., Raiden provides protection to warriors wearing the dragon mark seen on Cole, Jax, and others. These include Liu Kang, Kung Lao, and Kano, played by Ludi Lin, Max Huang, and Josh Lawson. They will train together while they “[prepare] with the greatest champions on earth against the enemies of the outside world in a fight for the universe with high stakes. “

You have to assume a Kano heel twist at some point, considering everything we know about Kano.

After previewing Weekly entertainment, the Mortal Kombat The film begins in feudal Japan with a fight between Sub-Zero / Bi-Han and Scorpion / Hanzo Hasashi before they attained their supernatural powers with Arcana propulsion. From there, things will invariably go bad for the rival ninja warriors.

McQuoid and screenwriter Greg Russo have pointed out that the new Mortal Kombat won’t be a PG-13 affair. Instead, expect R-rated violent acts and fatalities in the film when the film hits theaters and streams on HBO Max on April 16.
