In Hitman (2016) and Hitman 2 (2018), the developers demonstrated incredible talent for level design. Each scenario in these two games is full of opportunities to assassinate our targets in the most colorful ways possible, multiple routes to different areas, shortcuts and ways to take advantage of the characteristics of the place that make us feel very clever when we discover them.
Despite the creativity shown in all of them, there are some that are much more fun and interesting than others. That is why we present you a ‘top’ of the best levels of this pair of titles, celebrating the launch of Hitman III.
15. Hawke Bay, New Zealand
It is true that the first level of Hitman 2 It is not intended to be more than a training area, but it is boring. Not only do you have to do too many tasks for the goal to appear, but her routine is too simple and you just have to wait until she goes to sleep to drown her with a pillow. There is not much room for creativity. Having to create a distraction to escape the level does not encourage repeating it.
14. Colorado, United States
Killing four targets on the same restrictive map is overwhelming. There are too many limitations to the areas we can access and the uniforms we can wear. There are only a couple of fun ‘stories’ to follow and the whole setting is so similar that it can be confusing to navigate. The worst thing is that the challenges to get the scarecrow costume are some of the most difficult and boring in the game.
As if that were not enough, there is only one viable escape in the main mission that forces us to repeat the same steps every time we want to play it.
13. Mumbai, India
This level, with its labyrinthine streets and colorful characters, can be a lot of fun. Approaching the corrupt film producer and the criminal leader requires creativity and improvisation. The problem is the third objective, known as “Maelstrom.” This character is different every time we start the mission and forces us to always visit the same places to get his photo and then locate him in the crowd. Having to do the same thing every time we visit the level makes it a bit repetitive.
12. ICA training center
It is no surprise that the level of training is not very interesting. The “fake boat” section doesn’t offer many options to unleash our murderous imaginations. But the simulation of the Soviet base in Cuba does. This is where the potential of these games to create fun situations (such as ejecting the target from the airplane seat) or manipulating other characters (causing the colonel to accidentally electrocute the target) is demonstrated.
It is worth playing over and over again.
11. Vermont, United States
The level that allows us to wreak havoc in the suburbs of the United States can be quite amusing, especially for the little stories that we can learn about this “perfect neighborhood.” The number of agents that haunt the houses of our objectives offer a difficult challenge, but one that is interesting to solve.
The problem is, again, an extra mission that we have to fulfill to finish the mission: find the intelligence documents on Janus. This slows progress a bit.
10. Marrakesh, Morocco
Morocco is a huge map and the objectives are in opposite places on the stage. Although there are shortcuts underground, it can be a bit boring having to go through it multiple times to meet the more complex assassination challenges, which have fairly strict time limits.
Despite that, it is a level that offers a great story of revolution and shows how Agent 47 can be the avatar of a justice that sometimes does not arrive through the “proper channels.”
9. Bangkok, Tailandia
Our visit to a luxury hotel to get rid of a pop star and an unscrupulous lawyer also seems a bit overwhelming at first, but as we tour the place we discover that it is a very versatile and realistic setting that allows us to have fun with our costumed victims. of bellboys, bodyguards and even fumigators. Furthermore, we can learn a lot of “gossip” and plot details simply by paying attention to other people’s conversations, which opens up even more possibilities.
There is something else: the assassination challenges are references to The glow!
8. Santa Fortuna, Colombia
We already talked in depth about this level in our article on the representation of Colombia in the franchise Hitman. Anyway we can highlight the large number of fun options we have to carry out the murders and their variety of areas.
7. Hokkaido, Japan
The last mission of Hitman it can be quite complex. This high-tech medical institution is full of interesting areas and we can even ‘hack’ an artificial intelligence to do the work for us. The problem is that the security level is the highest in the entire game and getting the costumes we need to access the most critical areas is very difficult.
Following the best stories – like the yoga instructor’s story or sabotaging an operation – requires a high level of preparation, but the results are supremely satisfying.
6. New York, United States
In the first DLC mission of Hitman 2 we have to steal important information and end the life of a corrupt banker within her own bank. To approach her we have such great options as disguising ourselves as an employee about to be fired or an IT technician who is going to fix her computer. We can even arrive dressed as a bank robber and live the fantasy of a ‘heist movie’!
This level might have made the mistake of others with non-assassination missions, but it learned from the past. We do not have to remove the information from the vault as they propose. There are alternative and more fun ways to meet that goal.
5. Isla de Sgàil
This level is disturbingly reminiscent of Eyes wide Shut. We infiltrate a strange cult of millionaires in a castle in the middle of the sea. This evocative setting is perfect for taking advantage of the bizarre rituals of this disgusting cult to cause “little accidents.”
The setting is not the only thing that makes this level special. The amount of secrets we can find and the ‘hidden’ details about the plot make every corner of the island worth visiting.
4. Haven Island, Maldives
This tropical paradise is one of the most interesting settings to explore of the two games. The ‘resort’ already offers enough options to assassinate targets in its gym, spa and restaurant, but the possibilities reach insane levels when we discover a secret base under the island.
We can also participate in a treasure hunt and even do “jobs” for one of the objectives before its time. Did we tell them that we can collect starfish and use them as if they were ‘shuriken’?
3. Paris, France
One of the first levels of Hitman It is also one of the best examples of all the strengths of the game. The two objectives are far apart, but the way we can intervene in their routines to create assassination options is still the best example of the freedom of action that we have in these titles. Dressing up as a model and walking the runway to win an audience with one of your goals is a truly iconic moment.
Furthermore, this is also the setting for a Christmas event that parodies My poor angel and in which we can win a Santa suit.
2. Miami, United States
Another level full of interesting areas that interconnect with each other in unexpected ways. The dock and high-tech building offer enough “murder” toys, like a robot capable of recognizing faces, but the star here is the race track.
Our goal is to assassinate a driver and the ways we can affect the race to win, lose or cancel are incredible. This is one of the most creative levels and the best of all is that we can go through it disguised as a pink flamingo.
1. Sapienza, Italy
This is the level that convinced us that Hitman it was really something special. It is huge, varied and full of secrets. We can get to know the private lives of the targets and take advantage of that to assassinate them in ironic or surprising ways. For example, we can use their love of golf, astrology or the love affair of one of them to get closer.
But it was one of the optional missions of this level that really made us love him. In this one we have to assassinate the protagonist of a superhero movie in the middle of a shoot. In how many ways do you think we can sabotage special effects to create accidents?
¡Hitman III Already on sale! We have no doubt that IO Interactive is going to surprise us with levels as incredible as the ones we already enjoy.
