New leak in Apple’s iPad range, in this case in our example a preview of the next iPad mini the company. These new images were shared by the medium Pigtou, who collaborated with the xleaks7 leaker (David Kowalski), in the recreation of this iPad mini.
In theory, they make sure that the design we see on these lines is based on filtering some CAD files showing the arrangement of the device. The same source has already revealed the CADs of the new iPad Pro, with which they can recreate the design in the same way in very reliable images.
This new iPad mini would publish a slightly strange design which Apple has yet to address. As stated, the external dimensions and body of the iPad mini would be identical to the current model, measuring 203.2mm high, 134.8mm wide and 6.25mm thick.
However, the screen would be much closer to the edges, especially the top and bottom, from 7.9 to 9.15 inches of this model. However, things like the camera or the Touch ID sensor would stay in the same position, so it would take a hole in the screen to maintain them.
A strange decision that does not convince us
We must respect the sources, but sincerely I don’t think this is a solution that Apple could go for, for many reasons.
First, Apple hasn’t used screen holes on any device yet, and I doubt they’ll want to start with the iPad mini. And secondly because that Touch ID punching the screen no longer makes sense.
he iPad Air has a Touch ID sensor on the unlock button and removed the home button. This is undoubtedly the way to go, and not to pierce the screen to embed the old Touch ID sensor, especially having options in the competition that integrate it under the panel.
We had already heard rumors of a new iPad mini with tighter bezels, but its design should look more like a small iPad Air 2020 the one to this one they’ve shared since Pigtou, but who knows.
