Left 4 Dead 2: Down from the index after ten years!

Dead, index, left, Ten, Years

Valve’s zombie shooter Left 4 Dead 2 was on the index for years, most of the time even confiscated. That is changing now.

The Federal Testing Office for Media Harmful to Young People (BPjM) has announced that Left 4 Dead 2 is no longer on the index. Valve’s zombie shooter was released in late 2009 and was confiscated by the authorities in early 2010 for glorifying violence (severing limbs, beheading and wounds). This measure was lifted by the Tiergarten District Court in 2019, but the indexing in part B of the list remained, which means that further dissemination was still prohibited. Until now.

The EU and UK version for the PC and the European Xbox 360 version are no longer indexed. This would allow Valve to distribute the corresponding versions of the title again in this country.

In recent years, notorious indexed stocks have been re-examined with increasing frequency, including Mortal Kombat, which was also confiscated until March 2020. In addition, the entertainment software self-regulation (USK) has been evaluating depictions of violence and also of National Socialist symbols in video games more generously under certain conditions for some time.
