It has now been 10 years since I posted the game on PlayStation. At the time, it was on PS3. Can you imagine! Obviously, I'm very proud of today to deliver Attackers: Mankind Odyssey to PS4 players worldwide.
When I decided to start my own indie studio, Panache Digital Games, back in 2014, we were just a few people and one thing was very clear to me: I wanted to do things differently and be brave. I wanted to do things with panache! Fast forward five years later and this is it with my family of thirty game developers now and what I've done I've accomplished with Ancestors. It is unique, refreshing, and above all personal.
In this time of survival of the open world, I wanted to put players in the shoes of our first ancestors in Africa 10 million years ago. We have come as a species over millions of years of evolution now cut off in our parts. This game takes you back to your complete thinking and what makes us all human.
To do so, I could not make a game of chasing the green dots on a map. I had to create systems that would let you write your stories; building your way into evolution. The first story of how he survived and emerged as a human being in a dangerous and disturbing environment. Your survival as a list depends on the decisions you make. The four key game systems (sensors, intelligence, communication and symbols) are built to support exploration so that you can improve your family and your species from generation to generation. That way the Ancestors allow you to have amazing access and be more than an actor. For Ancestors, you become your character and appear together with your family.
Eureka moments in games often come in the form of a story, a subtle twist in the narrative that surprises us at the end of the play. In this case, my team and I have tried something very different. Aside from the narrative, the eureka moments in Ancestors are sprinkled with your journey and it happens as you try known skills to gain new and novel effects as you explore, expand and unfold. These skills and knowledge will be passed on to members of your tribe, to your minorities, to your entire list. Yes, something as simple as chewing coconut, chewing on a tool or finding oil to treat your wounds can lead to an eureka moment for Ancestors. Because let's tell you how to do it, you have to find out for yourself. So be aware The game will mark your out-of-the-box game and will answer it by providing new ways to improve.
Every one of us here at Panache is hoping that you will get lost in this game, letting your environment guide you. At first, we warn you that we won't help you much, and we don't do it anymore; we better see how your creativity leads you to uncharted territory and helps you overcome your fear of the unknown. You, Homo sapiens, can you survive as our ancestors did before us? How do you measure up against science? Are you better than our ancestors?
That said, good luck on your evolutionary journey Take your time. Be patient. Follow your trends.
