A few weeks ago it became known that the streaming provider Netflix is picking up another game brand and producing a series on the cult hedgehog Sonic. More details have now been officially announced.
It is now certain that the animated TV series will be called “Sonic Prime” on Netflix. As was already known, the starting shot should be given worldwide in the coming year 2022. In addition to Netflix, SEGA itself and WildBrain are also involved in the implementation.
The first season of the Netflix series will initially consist of a total of 24 episodes. These are then explicitly aimed at “children, families and long-time fans”, whereby some key figures and features of the series of games around Sonic will be picked up and thus ensure a high recognition value.
Thematically, the fate of a strange new multiverse is placed in the hands of the blue hedgehog. His journey in the series will not only be a race to save the universe, but will also be shaped by Sonic’s self-discovery.
The implementation is being driven forward at WildBrain, based in Vancouver. The showrunners and executive producers have already celebrated successes in this entertainment area with “Ben 10” and “Big Hero 6”. The Sonic series is celebrating its 30th anniversary in the current year 2021.
