The developers dig into the source code of the new iOS 14.5 beta, which launched a few minutes ago, and have discovered something that will make life a little more comfortable for all of us: We can ignore Face ID when unlocking our phone when we wear a mask.
How? ‘Or’ What? Well, using an Apple Watch. If we are in the street with a mask and want to unlock the iPhone, it will search if we have the Apple smart watch. And if it is unlocked, the iPhone will also be unlocked

It includes a new feature: unlock iPhone with Apple Watch while wearing a mask. If you wear a mask and have an unlocked Apple Watch on your wrist, you can unlock FaceID on your iPhone.

There are many who, since the start of the pandemic, have regretted having to manually re-enter their iPhone unlock code with Face ID, while those of you who use a model with Touch ID like the iPhone SE have not this problem. Maybe that’s why the rumors are talking about an upcoming iPhone that combines Face ID and Touch ID, which makes it easier for us.
Face ID sensors are not able to correctly detect our face when we have our mouths covered, although some tricks provide solutions. Therefore, Apple decided to resort to another securely locked device that acts as an “authenticator”: the Apple Watch

The bad news about this is that naturally you will need an apple watch with watchOS 7.4 to be able to take advantage of this new feature. If not, you will have to continue entering the unlock code on the iPhone when you have the mask.
