Xiaomi uses Google apps and services on phones launched in Europe. In the devices that the brand launches in its home country, only MIUI is used on the device, without the presence of Google services and applications. This is a common thing for Chinese phone brands, which usually have two versions of their devices.
There are users who are trying install Google services and applications on your Xiaomi phone in China, but this is no longer possible. The MIUI 12.5 update has been released for the brand’s devices in China and these users are seeing how they can no longer install GMS (Google Mobile Services) on their phones.
Xiaomi blocks the installation of Google services
The company itself has responded to complaints from users who were unable to install Google services on their phones. They said that Xiaomi phones that do not come with the standard services and apps they won’t be able to install them later. This should come as no surprise as the devices they are launching in China do not have such support as Google services are banned / blocked in the country by decision of their own government.
What we do not know is whether this change in its policies it’s something that affects all devices of the company. Users have reported that phones like the Redmi K30 Ultra or the Redmi 10X 5G are among the phones that cannot install Google apps and services. There are probably more devices.
These restrictions are limited to China only, Xiaomi’s country of origin. In this country, Google services and applications are blocked, so phones launched in the market do not. The brand now also blocks the ability to perform its subsequent manual installation.
It is important to note that in the rest of the markets, such as in Spanish, the company’s phones continue to arrive with these services and applications as standard.
