SCUF has scored a great victory in theirs Patent infringement proceedings against Valve, with a jury awarding $ 4 million to the external controller manufacturer by selling the Steam Controller.

The verdict increases the $ 2.53 million (1.6 million dollars). got fine valve for geoblocking sales. But according to Law.comThe damage in the SCUF trial could increase even further after the jurors found Valve willfully infringing the SCUF patent.

The case focused on a SCUF patent obtained in 2013 and Valve’s first demo of the Steam Controller at CES the following year. Ironburg Inventions – which is now owned by PC peripheral giant Corsair – informed Valve that the Steam Controller violates the part of the SCUF patents that contains the “read-side control surfaces”.

“Valve knew its behavior posed an unreasonable risk of injury, but it just moved on to commit a violation.” SCUF’s lawyers argued.

According to a message from Corsair, the jury’s verdict was unanimous and opens the door “to a possible award of increased damages up to the legal limit of height damage”. Even so, the Steam Controller has not been in production for almost two years. And the controller hasn’t gained enough traction in the market to keep SCUF’s sales and brand from getting to the point where it was acquired from Corsair.

The process has only just endedSo it’s likely that if Valve appeals the decision and fights against changes to the verdict, things will stretch a bit further.
