The growth of subscription services has indeed accelerated.

According to EA CEO Andrew Wilson (Andrew Wilson), he told investors that as of December 2020, the service has nearly 13 million users.
As of September 2020, EA Play has 6.5 million users, which means that the user base has roughly doubled in just three months. Growth has increased sharply; previously, it took 18 months for EA service subscribers to increase from 3.5 million to 6.5 million.
The recent surge is partly promoted by the cooperation between Electronic Arts and Microsoft, including the use of EA Play and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for game consoles starting in November 2020.The service also intends to integrate with the PC version of Xbox Game Pass in December, postponing it to 2021
EA Play will also land on Steam in August 2020. There is no doubt that it will provide more new subscribers.
Wilson told investors: “We are also expanding our subscription leadership.”
“The breakthrough integration of our EA Play services and Microsoft Game Pass has accelerated our subscription business, and currently has nearly 13 million players active on four platforms (Xbox, PlayStation, Steam and our EA client). With More and more participants are starting to evaluate the subscription model, and as our scale on various platforms and content continues to expand, we are using recurring revenue to build a strong growth business. We also have new streaming media players and Game Pass Ultimate and other partners join our network through Xbox cloud gaming. We are committed to promoting the cloud as an important part of the future of the gaming ecosystem.”
EA Play used to be Origin Access and EA Access, depending on whether you are playing on a PC or a console. Electronic Arts renamed the service in August, although the confusing EA Play is the name of the publisher’s annual event held around E3 in June.
