Diablo II: Resurrected is essentially the original game, according to the producer – iGamesNews

Diablo, essentially, game, igamesnews, original, producer, resurrected

The Blizzard classics community can now look forward to an upcoming installment, the recently announced Diablo II: Resurrected, which will be released as a revision of Diablo II but with multiple enhancements that adapt its overall design to modern technology.

However, in the vision of producer Rod Fergusson, this title is not a remake. In an interview with Polygon has claimed that the title is so based on Diablo II that it cannot be considered a remake, but is essentially Diablo II. The creative affirms that this delivery does not try to simulate, but to offer the same experience, and even hides some 2D sprites.

These were his words:

This is not a remake. We are not reverse engineering it; we are not rebuilding it and trying to make it look and sound like [Diablo 2]. This is [Diablo 2]. […] It is there, below the surface. The whole simulation, the engine of this game, that lifeblood of this game, is underneath. So, there’s a lever, a legacy lever, that when you turn it on you can see behind the curtains, and you’ll see a 2D sprite Diablo 2 running around, and you can play the way you played 20 years ago.
