It has always been said that video games also serve to learn history, and this time ‘Ghost of Tsushima’ is giving a clear example of this.

And what is perhaps more honorable is that the inhabitants of the real Tsushima Island, located in Nagasaki, not the island that appears in the game, have decided to appoint permanent tourism ambassadors for the city, the developers of the game, Nate Fox and Jason Connell.

This appointment consists of a quite prestigious award in Japan, which is generally awarded in gratitude for good works or actions and on this occasion, it was due to the disclosure that, of the history of Japan in that period as well as the name of the island, made the creators of the game.

A great recognition for the Sucker Punch Productions studio that never imagined the way in which its game launched almost a year ago for PS4, would have this award, which due to the pandemic, will be awarded digitally.

The Japanese in general, and those of Tsushima in particular, are very grateful that the Sucker Punch Productions studio has disclosed the history of that period when the Mongol invasions occurred between 1274 and 1281 in the Japanese archipelago.

And as if the enthusiasm and gratitude of the Japanese were not enough, they have decided to organize a tourism campaign for all fans of ‘Ghost of Tsushima’ and for the general public, interested in seeing the real locations of the island where they are fought these terrible battles during the Gen-Ko period.

They say that the popularization of the island and its history is unknown even by a large number of Japanese and has been a “wonderful way to spread it“.

Heartfelt words from the Mayor of Tsushima

Hiroki Hitakatsu, the Mayor of Tsushima, stated during the award ceremony, that “I couldn’t thank enough what they have done to tell the story through some phenomenal graphics filled with deep stories“.

He went on to say that “Thanks to Sucker Punch Productions, I have listened to people from all over the world who have known Tsushima thanks to their work and now want to see, know and travel Tsushima“.

He concluded by saying that as soon as the restrictions due to the pandemic end, he will invite developers to visit the island “and adore her even more“.
