For some, the measure of the quality of a streaming video service is the number of awards its original content gets. The reality is that there are a lot more factors than when it comes to rating a rig, but yes it helps to have critically recognized shows. And Apple TV + is not lacking.
When Apple introduced the service to the company in March 2019, it became clear that it was not a platform designed to have a lot of different content. On Apple TV +, what matters is the quality of the films and series who are present. From documentaries to current series, everything must have Apple’s approval.
So when it comes to awards season, it’s no surprise that among the nominees we found some of the Apple TV + productions. And in the case of the BAFTA Awards, from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, there are two that make the lists: “Greyhound” and “Wolfwalkers”.
In the case of “Greyhound”, the film written and starring Tom Hanks, is nominated for best visual and sound effects. Yes “Wolfwalkers” goes even further, entering the list of candidates for the award for best animated film.
For now we’ll have to wait until next april to find out the winners, and the awards ceremony is scheduled for the 11th of this month. So we’ll see if either of the two receives such significant recognition within the film industry.
What is clear is that this is only the beginning. Apple TV + has prepared a nice list of releases for this year, with new seasons of existing series and completely new productions. As if that weren’t enough, it will also host Skydance’s upcoming animated films. So, it is highly likely that this year’s two BAFTAs will come to naught compared to what’s to come.
