Greyhound and Wolfwalkers give Apple the first Oscar nominations

Apple, give, Greyhound, nominations, Oscar, Wolfwalkers

One of the ambitions that Apple has always had since the presentation of its streaming video service in November 2019 was to secure an important nomination. In his freshman year, he won three Golden Globe nominations for The Morning Show, but his was left blank.

Apple hit the nominations target again yesterday afternoon, this time for the Hollywood Academy Oscars. The films that Hollywood academics have selected as nominees for this year’s Oscars are Greyhound and Wolfwalkers.

Doggy style

A week ago, the nominations for the British Film Academy’s BAFTA Awards were announced. Apple received two nominations for the Greyhound and Wolfwalkers films, so we could take it as a preview of what was to come.

The film starring Tom Hanks, Grehound was nominated in the Best Sound category, a minor award, but it marks the first foray into the Oscars. The animated film Wolfwalkers was nominated for Best Animated Feature.

According to Zack Van Ambrug, Head of Apple Worldwide Video after the nominations were announced:

There is nothing more exciting than seeing these unique and meaningful films resonate with both critics and audiences around the world. We’re incredibly proud of what we’re building at Apple and having these movies celebrated in this way – and in such a short time – we’re humble and grateful to the artists and filmmakers who have partnered with us.

Wolfwalkers will compete in the best animated film category with Onward, Sould and Granjaguedon: Shaun the Sheep Returns.

Greyhound, meanwhile, will compete against Mank, News of the World (a movie starring Tom Hanks), Sould and Sound of Metal.

The 93rd Annual Hollywood Academy Academy Awards will be held on April 25 at an event broadcast by ABC.
