Sony has announced via a statement on your website that PlayStation Communities will not be part of the home menu of the PS4 operating system. The tab gave access to conversations with other players in the style of a forum, also allowed to share achievements, images and short videos of their favorite titles.
The decision probably comes from the fact that some of these functions already exist in PS5 without the PS Communities name, or that they are directly planning to launch something better. This section worked in the style of a social network in which you interacted with people who were not necessarily your friends on the PS Network system.
Goodbye to the community
So if you have any contacts that you want to keep, you should add them to your friends list. The same for the material uploaded there such as images or texts that will disappear when the service ceases to exist. The new April update, 8.5, is supposed to be the one that would remove the service.
However, there have been cases in which Sony does not wait for the update to actually remove services from which it announced its discontinuation. So PS Communities has the days or maybe the hours numbered. In the same way, it was something to be expected if we take into account that the service was available on Android and iOS but was discontinued a year ago.
On the website where we can read the announcement, we can also see how other Sony services have been gradually eliminated. However, this is only the second service that PS4 loses after the integration with Facebook, the rest are from PS3 and PS Vita. So it seems that, as expected, the arrival of PS5 will slowly start to push PS4 into the background with fewer services and applications as more players move to the new generation.
