Many video game makers have shown us a great ability to develop unique video games. In fact, it is possible that when reading that first sentence, a great video game creator may already come to mind. But one of those who has always managed to fascinate us, whether for better or for worse, is Hideo Kojima, recognized by the Metal Gear franchise, his latest work. Death Stranding and his extravagant details in each of his works.
And whether or not you played any of his works, Kojima has become known around the world, gaining great recognition for his fourth wall breaks and his great ability to implement mechanisms that seemed totally impossible
This extravagant idea came with the intention of being able to convey to the player feelings close to the game.
We are talking about Snatcher, an adventure video game with a cyberpunk plot that was written and directed by Kojima himself. While the gaming proposition is already striking and has been truly appreciated on consoles, the director couldn’t help but new plans when the PC version was in preparation.
Kojima had a plan to give the game’s floppy disks a unique flavor
While the game was in development, Kojima came up with his idea. And it is that, with a game linked to blood and a great mystery due to a chemical weapon that brings death with it, the Japanese creator wanted to give it a certain reality. For him, proposed to cover the floppy disks with a chemical which, when heated due to its use in the computer, was able to give off an odor of blood.
With this smell I wanted the players to feel that they were present at the crime scene
What was your intention? I wanted to convey to the player the reality of the game, I wanted to make him feel that he was in a crime scene while they were playing. While that might already sound like enough, that wasn’t the only special feature of this chemical, but also that, along with the heat, would reveal a message that the player could use to solve any of the puzzles found in the game.
As you can guess, despite the oddity of the idea, it didn’t quite come together and ultimately It was one of Kojima’s many ideas that was left hanging.. Of course, demonstrating once how his mind is able to bring projects to life which, perhaps, on his part, we could never imagine were possible.
