While convention organizers held hope until the last minute, it turned out that early June was a little early for thousands of players to come to Boston for PAX East 2021. The live event has now been canceled and replaced by a special PAX online event that runs from July 15th to 18th.
Last year’s PAX East in Boston, held from February 27th to March 1st, was one of the last major live gaming conventions held before covid-19 shut everything down Exhibitors like Sony withdrew at the last minute for health and safety reasons. Those concerns persist into 2021, and while Penny Arcade and ReedPop are still hoping for PAX West and PAX Unplugged in September and December, it’s too early for one 3rd-6th June PAX East. Fortunately, convention organizers have not sold tickets for this year’s PAX East nor have they sold exhibitor space, so the cancellation shouldn’t cause anyone any major problems.
Instead of PAX East, Penny Arcade and ReedPop are doing what they did for PAX West last Septemberand is hosting a huge online event in its place. More information on these plans will be available soon.
