Lucky lover is a challenging action platformer with a lucky mechanic and a hip-hop soundtrack. The gameplay is challenging and lets you enjoy every health point you have. It’s about keeping your head cool in hot situations. And look stylish at the same time.

I’m Donald, the game designer for Lucky lover. Our studio consists of a team of 3. After making several smaller games, we knew we wanted to make something bigger. A full game instead of small demo games. So we got together and went through the game ideas notes to find something we liked.

Here the line “A game of chance” came up. It was probably written down a year earlier, but never used. We thought we didn’t know any games that focus on luck being a real game mechanic. So we thought about what we could do with it. We went for an action platformer with a western theme. Mainly because we felt that this period had a lot to do with happiness, especially the harsh environment and the search for gold and wealth. But also because I really wanted to dive deep into the western spaghetti movie genre and see as many as possible for inspiration.

After working on a prototype for a week or two, the gameplay took shape. But overall something was missing. It was a bit bland and needed some punch. We are all three hiphopheads and we worked on it while listening to hip hop. We must have played somewhere with a nice track in the background because suddenly everything fits. It felt really cool and fresh to us. We knew the anime Samurai Champloo could do samurai and hip hop, so we felt like we could do cowboys and hip hop. And so the main idea was born.

With the game in good shape, we uploaded the PC version to Newgrounds. Where we got a lot of cool and useful feedback. Enough to convince ourselves that we created something funny. So we went on. We have attended many congresses and meetings in the Netherlands and some in Germany. We were invited by Indiecade to showcase at E3, so we did it. It was a really great time, but also very busy. It passed quickly! It was wonderful to see people playing our little creation. At E3, I even met one of my heroes, Warren Spector (the director of the original Deus Ex).

After letting go Lucky lover We did patchwork on the PC and worked on a new project. At that point, 2Awesome Studio (which we met at the events) was talking to us about creating a console version. And here it is!

Lucky lover

We hope you dig it. We definitely enjoyed creating it and seeing people experience it.

In Luckslinger you steal your lucky stars – spend them wisely! Partly inspired by the unrealistically fast gunslingers, the dark, grainy humor and the greed-driven anti-heroes of the western spaghetti classics. Fully inspired by vinyl trenching, graffiti spraying, rhyming and the slow, jazzy drum samples of hip-hop culture and sound. Are you feeling unhappy Ride west of bandits in Luckslinger, steal their luck and use it for your own good. The more lucky you are, the greater the chance you will dodge bullets, better loot at your feet, and stay alive. However, if you lose your luck in your trusted bracelet, bridges collapse, stones fall, and outlaws may know where to sleep that night. At Luckslinger, we rely on the luck of the draw. Clovercreek and the Mad Outlaws – The town of Clovercreek has been blindly robbed. Six notorious criminals stole the city’s precious good luck charms, and it’s up to you to bring them back. Receive the golden prize because bounty hunters do not do charity work. Duck friend to the end – you will be accompanied by your Duckbridge companion at all times. He’ll return your throwing knife, grab extra health, and distract your enemies … but only when his little duck brain tells him to.
