But in addition to Kate Bishop and Hawkeye, the new one will also be MCU– Heroine Echo (Alaqua Cox) will play a weighty role in the upcoming Marvel show. Yes, Echo even already has get their own spin-off before the start of series production, which is currently in development.
Exciting set photos show Echo in action
Photos taken on the set of the Disney + series “Hawkeye” now offer a first look at the new Marvel heroine:
In the pictures above you can see Echo in a completely black outfit next to a motorcycle, which actress Alaqua Cox also drives on some snapshots. What is striking is the lack of echoes from hand-shaped face markings known from the comics!
This is superhero Echo in the Marvel Comics
Echo first appeared in “Daredevil # 9” from 1999 in Marvel Comics. The bourgeois Maya Lopez called deaf heroine is extremely athletic and her special ability is to remember movement sequences and to duplicate them!
That means: if Echo has seen something once, she can do it too! She is therefore an excellent martial arts fighter, ballerina and acrobat, as well as a world-class piano player. Echo is also a super marksman, which connects her to Hawkeye and Kate Bishop.
Echo’s deafness is their Achilles heel
However, because of her deafness, Echo is dependent on her vision. It is therefore severely restricted in the dark. Echo also relies on lip reading, which can make communication with teammates difficult from time to time in heated combat situations.
Is Echo’s father still alive in “Hawkeye”?
For Echo’s comic origins story, the death of her father William “Crazy Horse” Lopez is extremely significant. The criminal, played by Zahn McClarnon in “Hawkeye”, is killed in the Marvel Comics and as he dies he touches the face of his daughter Maya / Echo.
This touch leaves a bloody handprint on Echo’s face, which the superhero later applies to herself as a kind of war paint. The absence of the handprint on the “Hawkeye” set photos now suggests (like the casting of Zahn McClarnon) that Crazy Horse will still be alive, at least at the beginning of the MCU series.
In the Marvel Comics, Echo embarks on a bloody vendetta to avenge her father’s death. She incorrectly assumes that Daredevil murdered her father – and a fight ensues between the two.
