The Mass Effect: Legendary Edition project manager announces that the next set has gone gold and is much closer to launch.
BioWare has crossed a huge milestone when it comes to putting Mass Effect: Legendary Edition in the hands of gamers eager to revive the original trilogy. This new version of the classic series has taken some time to come to life, and BioWare has made some changes to the Mass Effect games with the newly updated package, although it has now turned to gold.
The announcement is courtesy of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition project director Mac Walters, who took to Twitter to share with fans that the game is ready to launch. While this doesn’t mean that the release date has any planned changes, it does mean that BioWare has the game in a finished state and can start working on the additional polish until launch.
Going for gold is a huge development milestone for any title, as this is when the developer has assessed that the game is ready for release. Considering that this game, in particular, is a remaster of previous titles, it may seem to fans that getting to this point is an easy point to cross, as much of the game was already completed in previous versions. However, the changes and improvements coming to Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, in everything from combat to the newly designed Mako, mean that BioWare was essentially rebuilding large portions of the game from scratch.

Fans have also started flocking to the announcement, showing their excitement about returning to the original Mass Effect trilogy with BioWare’s promised enhancements. However, there are many fans who have also noted that no matter how many adjustments and changes are made to the formula, Mass Effect’s Commander Shepard still can’t dance. Of course, that sticks with canon anyway, so for the most part, gamers are happy to see what BioWare is preserving from the original series as the Legendary Edition tries to assert itself as the ultimate way to play. .
With the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition release date right around the corner, it’s good news to see that the game has gone gold and is ready to ship over a month in advance. There will likely still be a day one patch or some sort of update within the first few weeks of the game’s release, as it has become the industry standard with this type of release. That said, if BioWare is confident enough to say the game is done now, then most gamers should be able to go online and play once it starts hitting store shelves.
Mass Effect: Legendary Edition will be released on May 14 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
