Outriders, People Can Fly’s new looter, has variable levels of difficulty, from extremely hard, just a little hard, trivial, normal to somewhere in between. Not only can players customize their experience, but they can also make the game as difficult as possible.
To like Diablo 3 and The Division series, Outriders uses a tiered difficulty system called World Tiers. The higher the level, the more difficult the enemies, but also the better the loot. You even get a starting bonus for the endgame if you increase your World Tier as the campaign progresses. Outriders‘ The extensive World Tier system challenged me to keep pushing myself harder and it was a great experience.
What is the World Tier System?
Outriders Start me at World Tier 01. Tier 01 not only removes levels from my enemies, but also actively lowers the quality of equipment I can find in the world. But it’s simple and makes my fresh Outrider appear like a god among everything that dares stand in my way.
When I defeat things on World Tier 01, I get progress on my World Tier bar, which is just below my experience bar. Once my World Tier bar fills up, I’ll automatically switch to Tier 02 using the game’s default settings. Enemies are still handicapped here, as are my prey, but it’s more of a challenge than before. And so I keep winning and winning until I’m on World Tier 03, then 04 and up and up.
Suddenly my equipment losses are incredible and enemies I could kill before with a glance are a serious threat. With each combat encounter I move closer to the next world level, but deaths take progress off my bar. I can never drop a world level just because I died, but I won’t be able to level up until I prove myself or get better gear.
And so, Outriders gets harder and harder as I go through the long campaign. But because the prey is better in the higher world levels, I get stronger in battle. With a combination of gear and skill, I can make my way to World Level 15, the maximum level outside of the endgame content. Tier 15 dramatically increases the power of my enemies, but also offers a 500% increase in the quality of the loot and a 425% increase in the chance of legendary drops.
What if I don’t want to hit my head in encounters until I’ve got the perfect rhythm, or hunt for weapons and armor until I can overwhelm my enemies with damage? Then I can adjust the difficulty to my liking. If I kick my ass on World Tier 12, why not on World Tier 09? It’s not that far down that combat is trivial, but it’s a convenient place to play some missions or face a frustrating encounter.
Difficult but rewarding
I could have shut down my world tier at any point during the game’s campaign, but I didn’t – until the final boss, a fight where I realized that my frustration actually has a limit, and that limit starts with to become one. Shot by a boss for 20 minutes into a 25 minute fight.
But before this unfortunate boss fight, I spent all my money Outriders Travel always pushing for this higher difficulty. Each new level pushes me to my limits, but I’ve never found an encounter without a boss that I couldn’t beat after several failed attempts.
At this maximum level of difficulty, the game urges me not only to perform mechanically, but also to consider all the tools that are available to me. In most games, I wouldn’t dream of playing with a crafting system until I hit the endgame because I’m scared of spending my precious resources before I really need them. But I’ve worked in Outriders since the middle section of the campaign, desperate for that edge to propel me forward. Towards the end of the campaign, I even looked for a build online to determine my class in such a way that it would perform as if at a higher level despite playing Diablo 3 Teach me that builds don’t matter until the endgame.
Even as I advanced into the higher world levels, the real difficulty of the game with my gear and build decreased. Sometimes I am powerful enough to break through my current world level and not die for multiple encounters in a row. Another time, I’ll bang my head against a single fight until I’ve completely memorized each enemy’s spawn patterns.
But that’s the nice thing about it Outriders‘ World Tier Bar: The game never stayed hyper-difficult or super-easy for long. As I smashed enemies left and right, I flew through my World Tier bar because I never lost progress – getting to this more difficult difficulty faster. On the other hand, if I struggled I would hardly affect my progress on the world level and give my equipment a chance to catch up before I could move on. Since I am in a challenging world stage, any enemy I can defeat has a good chance of dropping something useful.
The progress bar feels almost like shepherd a good coach. Outriders You cannot fail enough to get the tools you need to succeed, but you can never fail so badly that the task at hand is insurmountable. It’s also encouraging to know that I could overcome my difficulty in a World Tier and still have a challenging time, or that a player looking for a more relaxed experience could still enjoy watching World Tier 05 all the way through rock.
The way the World Tier Experience Bar works goes through every level journey Outriders feel unique and tailored to my abilities. When I want to test myself, I can really track my successes and failures Outriders by how fast I move through the levels. This way I can measure my progress and tailor my experience to my mood. Maybe I’ve already proven myself and don’t want to hit my head against the wall. Maybe I’ll decide to beat this boss without lowering the world level. In any case, it’s my choice.
