The problems of remote-controlled LED strips
We have written this text from our own experience, as we have detected the issues ourselves and here we report them so that if the same happens to you, you can take it into account. The problem is that the remote control of some LED strips uses the same communication system as other wireless devices, i.e. 2.4 GHz radio frequency which is the most common.
In most of those LED strips that use a remote, and especially in the cheaper models, the strip itself has a receiver and we’ll have to point the remote at the receiver for that to work; In other words, it is not an omnidirectional signal but must be directed towards the receiver.
The issue we detected was when using wireless devices, in this case both with headphones Virtual Corsair and with a mouse Logitech G903 Lightspeed. Initially, what we noticed was that when using the button to change the configuration of the LED strip, the mouse cursor disappeared; Then, by doing a more concrete test, we were able to verify that by holding down a button on the remote control, the mouse did not work directly.
The test with the headphones showed that what the controller was producing was interference. As it turned out, the LED strip receiver was close to the headset wireless receiver, and when you press any button on the headset remote control, there was a lot of noise, with some pretty high pitched and annoying beeps. This is obviously due to the fact that the remote control causes interference with wireless devices, and although this only happens when the remote control is in use, they can cause certain problems such as, for example, the mouse or headphones getting out of sync. with their respective receivers.
How to solve these problems?
Not that these issues are too serious, but it’s really something you want to avoid. Obviously, the simplest solution is not to use LED strips that work with a remote control and instead choose models that have the buttons on the strip itself or that integrate with the PC software (which in turn). however, the latter is ideal)., but we are also not going to recommend LED strips with remote control as they generally work very well and are generally quite inexpensive.
Instead, we recommend that you pay special attention when installing the bands, so that the receiver is as far away as possible from the PC case and any USB hub you may have that way if you have any wireless devices connected to the PC you will never point the command to their receivers and you will avoid these issues that we have detected.
