Epic announced today that there are a number of new non-gaming apps available now available on the Epic Games Store. The most interesting new app that has been added is the indie games storefront Itch.io, which may have thousands of smaller games you Save a huge new audience of EGS users.

The Itch.io Store It’s strange to be added to EGS, but it could be a huge boon for indie developers who often struggle to get their games out to a larger audience. While Itch.io previously had a separate, downloadable desktop app, it will now be available through a storefront that is over 160 million users as of January 2021. If only a small fraction of them download the Itch.io app, it could mean millions of new users for Itch.io and its developers. However, you still need a separate Itch.io account to buy and play games. But it’s well worth it given all of the great and totally free games that are on offer.

Five more non-gaming apps were added to the Epic Games Store today.

Brave – A free, open source web browser that lets people use cryptocurrency blockchains to send “basic attention tokens” to websites, which sounds awful.

KenShape – A simple but cool software that allows you to turn simple 2D pixel art drawings into blocky 3D models which can then be exported to various game engines.

chalk – This painting and drawing app has been around for a while and it’s already very popular. Now it’s on the Epic Games Store.

I was listening to the radio – A podcast and internet radio service that allows people to listen to hundreds of radio stations from across the country or a huge list of podcasts.

This isn’t the first time Epic has added non-game content to its store. Already in December 2020 Epic has added Spotify to its popular storefront, a sign that the Fourteen days dev wanted to expand the store beyond games. Today’s news confirms that Epic has further plans to build the Epic Games Store.
