Changes for animal companions with patch 1.4.0

Animal, companions, patch

Patch 1.4.0 for Wasteland 3 brings changes for the animal companions in the game.

Wasteland 3 developer InXile Entertainment announces that patch 1.4.0 will bring changes for the furry companions in the role-playing game. The free update will be released in the next few weeks.

Kennel for animal companions

The most important innovation in patch 1.4.0, which focuses on animal companions, is the kennel. This is a safe, warm, and nourishing environment for all furry and spiky friends to hang out in when they are not being used to kill gangs of clowns or robots.

At the moment, the animal companions don’t stay around when they’re released, but with the kennel they have a home that they automatically return to. So players can build a squad of dogs and cats and select them as needed or simply collect them all!

The furry friends not only return to the kennel when they are released, but also when their owner leaves the team (or permanently dies in battle), the animal companion automatically returns to the kennel when the next time another level is entered. Provided, of course, that they survive the fight themselves.

If players don’t particularly like a companion, they can also release them from the kennel back into the wild.

Note: Animal companions that ran away prior to this update will not automatically reappear in the kennel – they will need to be tamed again if possible.

Companion Type Limit – Gone!

What about those pesky companion-type limits, anyway? A wolf, a pig … A cat !? You need at least three cats. Regardless of the rules, the locks are opened for fur and horns! With patch 1.4.0, players can bring as many animal companions as they want.

Animal portrait & UI improvements

The character portrait system will also be updated to show which animal a particular Ranger is carrying and a health bar to keep track of the animal’s condition. This should be very helpful to keep track of things during the fight.

You can also move the mouse over the animal symbol to get a tooltip with the current values.

Does Polly want to crack open her skulls?

To round out the list of animal-related changes, the authors seriously revised the abuse of the favorite slacker. Polly now has a brand new ability, “Demoralize” in combat, infused with many, many blasphemous insults that she hurls at enemies.

Follower fixes

Last but not least, it fixes some annoying bugs that sometimes caused non-animal followers (Provost, Party Pal, etc.) to disappear during the game. While they can still splatter their brains or smash bolts if not careful, they should be less likely to get lost during the post-apocalyptic adventure.

Wasteland 3 can with Bought 50 percent off in the Xbox Store and is included in the Xbox Game Pass.
