While Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming is being expanded, Sony’s PlayStation Now is “only” the status quo. That seems to change in the foreseeable future.
As Sony boss Jim Ryan confirmed to Nikkei, Sony is apparently working on its own cloud gaming service. Interestingly, there is close contact with Microsoft. Sony is evidently in a lively exchange of ideas with the competitor. When the time is right, they want to present their own cloud strategy. The cloud gaming experience should be unique and exclusively for PlayStation.
PlayStation Now has been around for a while now and new games are added every now and then, but Sony is far from the technical implementation and the extensive measures of Xbox Cloud Gaming. The latter has just entered the beta phase for PC and iOS.
Whatever Sony plans to do, it will certainly take a while and will not yet affect the existence of the classic console, at least during the life cycle of the PS5.
