With the “ Extra dim ” parameter of Android 12 DP3, it is possible set the phone’s brightness below its minimum settings. This avoids eye discomfort caused by using the mobile in complete darkness when the screen appears too bright and cannot be minimized.
Few mobiles have a sufficiently low minimum brightness level enough to be used in complete darkness without the screen interfering with your view. The minimum brightness is usually sufficient for a good chunk of situations, at least until you use the mobile before sleeping (not the most recommended). What would you have liked more than once to reduce that minimal shine even further? Well, Google introduced a setting in the latest Android developer version 12: “Extra dim”.
“ Extra dim ”, minimum brightness even below what the mobile supports
As we said, every phone has a minimum brightness which doesn’t always adapt to super low visibility situations. And Google has decided to include in Android 12 a new accessibility setting: the ‘Extra dim’ or the reduction of brightness below the minimum.
Thanks to the adjustment, each user can configure what will be the minimum brightness of their device. Once the ‘Extra dim’ is activated (for the moment it is not translated into Spanish), the phone screen apply a software filter that will darken the screen below factory levels. This avoids the inconvenience of using the mobile in total darkness and that its screen continues to emit excessive light.
To set the ‘Extra dim’ mentioned above you must have the latest version of Android 12 for developers, DP3. If this is your case, you should do the following:
- Go to phone settings and enter “Accessibility”.
- Look for the menu ”Shine reduction“.
- Activate the “Extra dim” option.
- Go to a completely dark room, set the phone’s brightness to low, then adjust the “Extra dim” slider until the screen can be viewed without disturbing your view.
Once the setting is configured, you can enable or disable “ Extra dim ” in the accessibility menu, although this is more convenient. pin the ‘Brightness reduction’ connector to quick settings. When you press this connector, the additional panel brightness reduction is activated. This way you will have quick and easy control whenever you use the mobile completely in the dark.
