We want to bring you our first impressions of the game of Avalanche Studios. Second extinction is a first-person shooter game that puts us in command of a team tasked with eliminating mutant dinosaurs from the face of the earth. The game is exclusive for PC and Xbox and is available since yesterday for free on Game pass. It’s a title that many expectations have been placed on, but is it worth it? In the Xbox area, we’ll try to give you the keys to your early access.
Amazing graphics of Second Extinction with a “but”
The truth is, being in Early Access, from the newsroom, we didn’t expect a precisely large graphical display. In the first few minutes of play, you realize that you are wrong. The graphics have a pretty good level, the textures are more than correct and above all and most surprising, the game seems to go to 50-60fps smoothly.
Yes, everything looks very beautiful but this is where you have to go to the negative aspect. In much of the time that we have spent in this game, we almost always find some “fog” effect. This probably serves to fill in some gaps in the game given the high number of characters and enemies on the screen. But it’s true that it’s extremely boring and we hope that in the final version it’s, at least, softer., because it made it difficult to see at specific times.
It should also be noted that the extreme smoothness of the frames which seem to remain quite stable on Xbox Series X, suffers on Xbox One.. The number of enemies on screen is really impressive, and while the new generation seems to be handling it quite well, on Xbox One we experienced a drop in frame rate of about half. Despite this, and The most positive thing is that the dinosaurs are perfectly detailed and, except in specific moments of battle, the frame rate is surprisingly high, even in the latest generation of One.
Extreme gameplay, maximum fun
As soon as you do the game tutorial, you realize that the programmers wanted to accentuate the gameplay of the title. The tutorial takes less than 5 minutes and the controls are extremely simple although we are not exactly FPS experts. This is why if you are new to this type of game, it is a very easy title to enter the genre.
At Second extinction We can choose between different characters and it will be very important to combine their skills well. Although this is a simple no-touch RPG shooter, the success of our mission depends to a great extent on the right combination of everyone’s skills at the right time.. And it is that these are very different from each other, but the shortcomings of one, can be fueled by the skills of the other.
The maps are large and allow you to move around with a certain freedom and different paths, an interesting aspect to avoid monotony.
Musical ambiance
The music and effects surprised us with their strength but they manage to set the mood and adapt to the game.. To highlight the music in moments of combat, which will destroy our nerves with its frenzy. Plus the dinosaur sounds and screams are really surprising and successful and the growls or howls will get you started getting your hands on the trigger in case a mutant velociraptor is waiting for you behind the next corner.
Second Extinction: Jurassic fun with a few polish points
Our first impressions of the game were more than positive. In Early Access, it is convenient not to pay too many waits since these are unfinished games. at the end. But, in this case, the game has great graphics, a very smooth playing experience except for specific moments and a few massive and quirky enemies, different from the usual ones.
It is true that we suffered two crash (ejection to the console start menu) in two different players and another graphical flaw (a dinosaur got stuck in rocks) apart from the drop in frame rate. Despite these aspects to polish, and some to improve (the fog), the title was a pleasant surprise.
Taking into account that the developer is collecting all of our feedback to implement improvements to the game, it is more than likely that they will correct these errors bit by bit. This is why we can conclude that Second extinction It is shaping up to be a very promising co-op focused shooter that could become one of those essential games to play with friends in our beloved Game Pass.
