Start date of “The Last Kingdom” season 5
So far, no official start date has been announced. However, “The Last Kingdom” has the annoying habit of being incredibly long in coming. So fans had to wait around 18 months between seasons 2 and 3 and another 17 months between seasons 3 and 4 for the new episodes.
Assuming the waiting time for season 5 is 18 months, that would give us a start in November 2021. There should be no delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The lockdown phase overlapped with the writing phase, which is easy to do from home.

The plot of the fifth season will roughly follow that Novels from the Uthred saga by author Bernard Cornwell hold. Since each season is about two novels, “The Last Kingdom” season 5 will be based on novels 9, “The Dark Warriors”, and 10, “The Flame Bearer”.
Season 4 saw Uthred develop a closer relationship with his children. He sent his daughter Stiorra to Eoferwic as a bargaining chip, where she joined Sigtrygger. Uthred’s goal is peace between the Saxons and the Danes.

The Last Kingdom: Not all books are adapted
The news that “The Last Kingdom” will end on season 5 means that not all of the novels by master author Bernard Cornwell will be adapted for the Netflix series. “War Lord”, the 13th volume in the Uhtred saga, was only released in October 2020. But as it stands now, volumes 11-13 will no longer be part of the Netflix show “The Last Kingdom”.
