Strange things Season 4 has a new teaser trailer and it’s all about Eleven. The new teaser debuted on Thursday after one short YouTube preview, but not many questions about the coming season have been answered.
The teaser seems to bring us back to the Hawkins National Laboratory that Eleven originally escaped from Strange things‘first season. In the laboratory we see several children, all in hospital gowns and with shaved heads, wandering through a room decorated with rainbows. Elf himself is nowhere to be seen. Dr. Martin Brenner enters the room and says that he has planned “something very special” for the children in the house. The camera then pans to a door marked “11” and we hear Elf breathing heavily.
The season 4 teaser trailer could be a throwback to the first season of the series and a hint that we’re about to see more of Elven’s origin story in the lab. Or it could be a sign that Dr. Brenner is still alive and uses more experiments and children to get in touch with Eleven again.
This trailer also keeps us in the dark about what’s going on with the rest of the cast on the show. The third season of Strange things ended up with Hopper sacrificing himself by going upside down, but a post-credit tease and season four first teaser in Soviet Russia indicated he was still alive, only in enemy hands. The rest of the gang are still in Hawkins, Indiana, with the exception of Joyce, Jonathan, Will, and Eleven, who have moved away.
Whatever happens, it seems that Netflix’s goal with this teaser was to keep things as mysterious as possible. The description of the YouTube trailer is simply “002/004” – which means that at least two more teaser trailers are coming (the first trailer of the fourth season had the description “001/004”).
Our best hope of finding things out has to wait for the season to actually start, but there’s no official release date yet. Netflix said in a press release on Thursday that season four is currently in production, so it could be a while.
