For the past week, SEGA has been teasing a follow-up to Judgment, its much-revered Yakuza spin-off, by posting a countdown to a cryptic event known as “Judgment Day.” While the sequel’s official title and release date was leaked via the PlayStation Store yesterday, the publisher has now made the game official, announcing Lost Judgment with an action-packed trailer, a new game, and a confirmed release date.
The sequel will launch globally on September 24 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, and will come complete with dual audio options, so players can choose either the original Japanese dialogue or an English dub. . As for the story, it picks up the story of Detective Takayuki Yagami, who will investigate a creepy new case involving creepy murders, masked killers, and lots of intense action.
The Lost Judgment announcement trailer contains plenty of detail for fans wanting to know more about the game’s main narrative, revealing that it centers on a series of vengeful murders enacted on the streets of Japan. According to voice actor Takuya Kimura, Yagami will reportedly become involved in the case after “a guilty verdict is entered in court.” It seems that the battle to solve the mystery will be full of twists and turns, as Yagami delves deeper into the case after a personal tragedy of her own.
As for the combat, it will stay pretty much the same, with producer Kazuki Hosokawa stating that he will be “on” for the sequel. The Crane and Tiger styles will return, offering snappy crowd control and blunt power, respectively. However, a third style will be added, with Hosokawa revealing the Serpent. It appears to be a counterattack game style, allowing the user to turn an enemy’s attacks against them. In addition to combat, exploration is also receiving some improvements, with Yagami able to scale buildings, run through walls, and use pipes to launch himself over large gaps.
Other announcements include the addition of a new city known as Yokohama, which will host an intricately detailed high school that will play a significant role in the game’s story. Also added is a skateboard that players can use to traverse cities, speeding up exploration. Unsurprisingly, there will also be plenty of mini-games, including school activities like boxing and dancing, as well as a remote-controlled robot fighting game.
While gamers wait to get their hands on Lost Judgment, its predecessor recently got a remastered port and it’s available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Stadia. The new version of Judgment improves the game’s graphics and offers a higher frame rate, making it the ultimate way to experience Ryu ga Gotoku Studio’s recent detective-focused spin-off.
