Behind the scenes of Knockout City: sound design & soundtrack.

Knockout City, the upcoming team-based multiplayer title for dodgeball battles, is out on May 21st. In a new developer diary and blog post, Electronic Arts and Velan Studios give players a deeper insight into the creation process behind the game’s signature sound.

In the blog, the development team reveals their collaboration with the music duo Sonny and Matt from The Soundlings, who composed the 19-track soundtrack for Knockout City. The two have previously worked on projects like DC’s Shazam !, HBO’s Lovecraft Country, Netflix’s Narcos Mexico, and more. All songs from different personas and bands that players can hear in the match on the radio station “KO City Pirate Radio” were composed by The Soundlings. The music duo has researched over 30 genres in order to create this very special music for the upcoming multiplayer title.

The original soundtrack for Knockout City can be found on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes and more.

Audio Director Matt Pirog also describes how the Velan team experimented with different audio styles to create the futuristic retro sounds of Knockout City, as well as the team’s contributions to voice overs that give characters a personal touch. The full blog post can be found on the official website. The developer diary on YouTube can be found here:

Knockout City will be released on May 21 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC on Origin, Steam and the Epic Games Store, and thanks to backward compatibility for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S, in addition to EA Play and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Tasks.
