It seems that, bit by bit, Android phone makers are starting to solve one of the biggest problems in the Google ecosystem: that of updates to their phones. Having a different policy for each brand does not help common progress, but it now appears that many brands are working to improve it.
The latest item to move is OPPO, which has previously announced that it will offer three years of updates for its recent OPPO Find X3, specifically stating that it will be two years of updates for the operating system. and an additional year for security patches. A system that we have already seen several times, but the brand is considering adding an additional year to these figures.
Three years minimum and four years of study
As we said, OPPO has already confirmed that it will extend updates to its Find X3, including the Find X3 Pro as well, for up to three years, ranking above the ecosystem average. Android and reaching manufacturers such as Samsung or Nokia, who offer these deadlines for their terminals. Or like Google itself with its pixels. A figure which, unfortunately, not standard for Android environment.
Those three years will include at least three years of system security patch updates which the brand says will continue to be released on a monthly basis. What OPPO did not specify is whether or not new versions of Android are included during these three years Well, that would make the difference between the OPPO Find X3, which launched with Android 11, hitting Android 13 or Android 14.
Currently, OPPO is considering converting the three years of the Find X3 to four
But on top of that, OPPO Europe confirmed to Webedia that the company is considering extending this maintenance period for its device even further. At OPPO, they study the conversion of the three years of the Find X3 to four years, again without specifying whether it would only be for security patches or (in a more logical way) to also carry system updates for up to three years. Either way, OPPO is studying the possibility of keeping the Find X3 until 2025.
For the moment, we do not know what will happen with this jump from three to four years, and if it will occur in other ranges of the Chinese manufacturer. It would be interesting if the four years of maintenance became a standard for the manufacturer’s devices and other brands were asked to do the same with their models. We will see what will happen in the future.
