Virtual reality remains an omnipresent topic in the gaming industry, although the full breakthrough has not yet been achieved. Sony is still the most successful with PlayStation VR, which they want to build on in the future. Is PSVR 2 coming with PlayStation 5 now?

The fact that Sony is working on a successor to the PlayStation VR VR headset has long been a matter of decision. Again and again there have been rumors in the past, but also because the official announcement is still pending, there is still a lot of uncertainty about when the new hardware will be released. In May last year, Sony, in the person of Global Head of R&D Dominic Mallinson, made it clear that PSVR 2 would not be released at the same time as the PS5. Have these plans changed in the meantime?
This presumption is now made by at least one new report wccftech with reference to a current annual report from a renowned VR publisher. In this case we are talking about Immersive VR Education Ltd, which in the past was responsible for Apollo 11 VR and Titanic VR, among others. On the occasion of a report at the end of the 2019 financial year, this publisher now stated:
"In 2020, Sony will release the PlayStation 5 and a new version of the PlayStation VR headset (PSVR), further expanding the user base in the high-end VR space. Our group of companies intends to launch this new device support."
The question remains: Does Immersive VR Education Ltd know more about Sony's plans? In any case, that would not be unusual, after all, hardware manufacturers always include third-party developers and publishers in order to be able to ensure sufficient new content on their new products.
Possibly there will be more clarity in February, should Sony really hold a PS5 reveal event, on which PSVR 2 could then also be shown. Mallinson, quoted last year, also hinted that several models of the new VR headset could be in the works. We will of course also keep you up to date on this topic!
