Chernobylite is an upcoming science fiction survival horror RPG set in the hyper-realistic, 3D scanned wasteland of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, based on a deeply personal experience for Polish developers Farm 51.
In the spring of 1986, during a routine safety test to simulate a power outage after the test was complete, newly installed operators triggered a reactor shutdown that resulted in two explosions that ripped open the reactor core and destroyed the reactor building. This led to a nuclear fire in the open-air reactor that released significant amounts of radioactive contamination across Russia and Western Europe.
The panic that resulted from the radioactive cloud spreading over Europe, the nasty Lugol liquid that had to be drunk to counter the effects of radiation poisoning, and the order to stay indoors was a reality for millions of people People, including members of the Chernobylite development team.
These events sparked a deep fascination and interest in Chernobyl at Farm51. This interest later developed into a project aimed at transforming the Chernobyl power plant and the surrounding city of Pripyat into a virtual state. A virtual documentation of the events that shook the world. The proceeds from this virtual experience were donated to the victims who still need help after the decades of disaster. It took Farm 51 many years to 3D scan one of the most dangerous places in the world and recreate the zone true to the original terrible situation.
A game that allows others to see and feel the atmosphere of this abandoned, once busy city with their own eyes. A feeling of sadness and emptiness. An increased sense of fear that Farm 51 felt itself.
Preserving Chernobyl from natural destruction has become one of the pillars of the game to commemorate a place that is deteriorating and disappearing from year to year. The abandoned buildings in Pripyat city, buildings and objects exposed to the weather that fail the test of time. There are already places in Chernobyl that have collapsed or burned down in recent years and are now only visible as a result of great efforts to keep the website in digital form.
