Housemarque reports an update on saving in Returnal. Unfortunately, the players will have to wait a little longer for a manual storage system.
As if the third-person action roguelike Returnal wasn’t difficult enough, the title also has memory problems. developer Housemarque is currently working flat out to ensure that the hard-won game progress is no longer lost. Unfortunately, the latest update from the developers does not give any hope of any rapid progress in this regard.
On Twitter the colleagues from Axios Gaming reported on an interview with the developers at Housemarque, who still do not have a clear solution to the problem. The company’s marketing director, Mikael Haveri, revealed that they are still looking for a technical solution to implement a functioning storage system as quickly as possible. There are currently still some “systems in the game that are a hindrance”, according to Haveri.
At the moment, automatic backups are only carried out at the very rare storage options provided for this purpose. It is currently not possible to save manually. Because a single run can take several hours, unlike in other roguelikes, and the game can be lost due to crashes, for example, the community demands a save mode. Only pausing the game and putting the PS5 into sleep mode helps a little at the moment. There is currently little more than hope that Housemarque will hurry up.
