Final Fantasy 14thThe annual Fan Festival kicked off on Friday evening with a keynote about the game’s upcoming expansion. Endwalker.
Square Enix typically hosts three fan festivals a year, one in Japan, one in Europe, and a third in the US. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the event has been combined into one streaming event.
As expected, Final Fantasy 14th Producer Naoki Yoshida revealed new information from the upcoming Endwalker Extension to be released in the fall. We’ve listed some of the biggest announcements below.
EndwalkerThe full trailer features Sharlayan and our favorite friends
The full trailer for Endwalker was revealed during the stream, showing what our favorite rungs have been up to and what beautiful new areas in Eorzea we are about to explore. It also showed that Zenos is using the new Sense DPS weapon as expected.
Reaper is the new melee DPS job
After being teased with Yoshida’s shirts for a few months, we finally know what the second job in Endwalker is: Reaper. The new melee DPS will use a two-handed scythe weapon. In addition to the very cool slashing attacks, there is a ghost avatar from the void to help them fight.
You have to own this Endwalker Expansion and have at least one job at level 70 to unlock Reaper.
Old Sharlayan is Endwalker’s hub
Just like the Crystarium was Shadowbringer and Kugane was for Storm blood, Old Sharlayan will be EndwalkerHub City. This means that not only is this the zone where you can access shops and market boards, but that you will likely spend most of your time here during the expansion.
Other new areas are Labrynithos, Garlemald, Thavnair and … the moon
Labrynithos is a beautiful underground dome modeled after the outside world, and Garlemald is the territory of the people that Warriors of Light have worked with. ThavanirRadz-at-Han was confirmed as a new non-hub city for the expansion on an earlier stream, but we saw a demo of the area in action in the keynote.
As mentioned earlier, players will travel to the moon at some point during the expansion. This sets the Final Fantasy 4-esque topic with which we saw Endwalker so far.
Loporrits are one of the new animal strains
These adorable rabbits can be found on the moon and are set in the Asian fairy tale about moon rabbits. Are they going to make rice cakes? Will they sacrifice their livers? We do not know it! We know they are based on Hummingways, rabbit-like designs from – you guessed it – Final Fantasy 4.
Final fullingR’s Alliance raid series is called Myths of the Realm
Yoshida noted that it will explore the twelve, the deities in Final Fantasy 14exactly. It will also be original content, unlike some of the previous raid series that have been crossed with other games.
We actually get male Viera
Yes, the rabbit people race that was published in Shadowbringer actually gets a male counterpart in Endwalker. Viera used to be only female, but now they give us the rabbit pups we asked for. Thank you, Square Enix.
There are plans to add female Hrothgar in the future.
Endwalker will be released on November 23rd
The expansion will be fully available on November 23rd, but people who pre-order will have early access to the expansion content a few days before that date.
