That means state trojan: state malware for online searches
The term “state trojan” is made up of the terms “state” and “trojan”. “Trojan” does not refer to the Trojan horse, but rather on malware. With State trojan is therefore called state-commissioned malware for law enforcement through online searches.
Origin of state trojan
In November 2006, the Bundestag passed a package of measures against “terrorist dangers”, which also included surveillance strategies. This so-called “online search” works via infiltrated malware, known as “Trojans”, on the PC or smartphone.
Security authorities can use programs known as “Remote Forensic Tools” to monitor suspects’ activities in the WWW follow. According to the Code of Criminal Procedure adopted in 2017, “state Trojans” are used, among other things, in investigations into terrorism, gang crime, murder, money laundering and child pornography.
From around 2007 the terms “Federal Trojan”, “Landestrojaner” and “Staatstrojaner” spread in the media. “Bundestrojaner” was even one of the “Words of the Year” of the Society for German Language in Wiesbaden in 2007 and is more widespread than the synonym “Staatstrojaner”.
This is how you use state trojans
You can use the term “state trojan” synonymously with “federal trojan” to denote a “remote forensic tool” introduced by state investigative authorities. The terms “state” and “federal Trojan” are colloquial word creations and as such are more descriptive than the official designation “remote controlled forensic tool”.
