Often mistaken for a raccoon, a cat, and even a red panda, our hero can be all of that and much more! The same applies to the multi-faceted fighting style of our hero! Our goal was to create a fast-paced and action-packed fight with a mix of hand-to-hand combat, gunfight and mutation. All of this plus easy control. We took a lot of inspiration from traditional kung fu, including my personal experience. We also took inspiration from John Woo films and films like “Kung-Fu Panda”. Through all of this, we were able to find our own unique type of fight.
What we call mutant ability is a key ingredient in a successful attack. Changes to the physical appearance of our hero lead to different physical strengths and abilities in combat. The result is a fluid and acrobatic style. Put on melee and projectile weapons and fight in Biomutant is slightly different from any game out there.
The player will quickly learn that each element of this combat system is not only fun, but also necessary as the various attacks of the creatures in Biomutant will always surprise you. Some curl up into a ball and zoom right into the player. Some dig into the ground, some spit acid, and some attacks are even more unexpected. The gigantic boss fights offer each boss a unique attack. The player will in many cases benefit greatly from watching and learning before striking.
