After many years of waiting and countless rumors, Virtua Fighter returns to the world of gaming with a new edition.
Under the title of Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown, this next June 1 will be released the work that continues the pioneering saga of 3D fighting games. With an official preview and details compiled by IGN, you can see the advanced graphic level of this title, together with an aesthetic typical of the Japanese house.
While Virtua Fighter is one of the earliest examples of fighting games in this style, within Sega it is the master mold from which entire generations of games and styles emerged. Proof of this is that Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and Sega AM2 bring the same style of action from the Yakuza series to 1v1 combat.
The arrival of this title represents not only the rebirth of another great franchise of competitive fighting games, as seen recently with Samurai Shodown, but one of the highlights of the 60th anniversary of the legendary Sega.
Currently, the scenario is very different from the one faced by the first Virtua Fighter in 1993, presenting an evolution in the world of fighting games that were anchored in what Capcom and SNK offered. Inspiring a new model, which would open the doors for Namco (now Bandai Namco) to create its iconic series such as Tekken and Soul Calibur in the following years.
Today, the fighting game world is largely dominated by Bandai Namco and its multiple divisions and projects, with Capcom and NetherRealm planting their flags and the slow resurgence of SNK.
